Apple screen or hug OLED China mainland panel factory how to deal with? 7th,May,2019

Although it is rumored that Apple is about to adopt OLED panels for a long time, but until the iPhone6s, Apple phones have been using LCD screens. Recently, the news that Apple iPhone plans to officially use OLED panels in 2018 is booming. Is Apple really going to bid farewell to LCD panels? What changes will Apple bring to the tablet industry with OLED screens? In the key turning point of the development of the OLED industry in 2018, how will Chinese enterprises meet new challenges?

2018 is the turning point of flexible OLED panels

Apple's 2018 OLED display is not groundless. Recently, Samsung, LG Display, JDI and other screen suppliers with OLED production capacity have begun to improve the technology, and intensively layout the OLED industry, plans to mass production of OLED display in 2018.

From the perspective of suppliers of OLED displays, Samsung with years of market experience has a first-mover advantage in the OLED industry. Despite this, Samsung has recently begun to adjust its production plan to sell all of the equipment for the 5th generation LCD panel production line in Korea and use the funds to expand the OLED production line. In order to increase the layout of OLEDs, it is not even ruled out that Samsung will stop the production of small and medium-sized LCD panels in the future, so as to concentrate its advantageous resources and further consolidate its leading position in the OLED field.

In the view of Li Yaqin, deputy general manager of Qunzhi Consulting, although the penetration rate of OLEDs continues to increase, from the perspective of supply chain security, suppliers are still too single, and Samsung is the only one. Therefore, in order to provide Apple with a stable OLED screen, LG Display and JDI have plans to build a 6-generation OLED production line, and will mass produce OLED products in 2018.

According to the reporter's understanding, LG Display plans to invest 10 trillion won to build a 9-generation ultra-large OLED production line and flexible OLED production line, and the first production line will be put into production in the first half of 2018. Its product strategy is mainly aimed at mobile devices and large-size TV panels. . It is not difficult to find that this coincides with Apple's time to launch OLED phones.

In this regard, LG Display CEO Han Xiangfan publicly stated that LG Display regards OLED as the driving force for the future development of the display industry that changes the market structure, so it will definitely develop the P10 factory into the world's first OLED production base, making it the global OLED industry. center.

Li Yaqin told the author that Korean panel makers have a certain relationship with the layout of OLEDs and Apple's upcoming OLED display. First, the shape of mobile phones needs to change to stimulate demand. Apple has a new product every year, and there is no new idea. . Second, Samsung, LG Display, and JDI have different advantages in OLED. We expect Apple to use flexible OLED panels as mobile phones in 2018. Samsung has already started mass production of some flexible OLED screens, and the advantages are obvious. In the future, they plan for flexible OLED panel production lines.

Li Yaqin said that the flexible OLED display is a plastic substrate made of PI material, which can be bent, and the degree of bending is related to the technical maturity. Samsung Edge phones only have a certain degree of curvature, but can not bend, we expect Samsung to push the phone that can be bent next year. It can be said that 2016 is the first year of flexible panels, 2018 is a turning point, there will be a significant increase, and more brands will participate.
